You’ve no doubt heard about SEO companies that will guarantee you first page ranking on result pages – so why shouldn’t you use one of them?

Well, you could if you wanted to – but beware! Many of these companies use what is known as black hat SEO tricks which are basically dishonest, unacceptable methods of trying to fool and cheat the search engines by manipulating their indexes to get higher rankings.

If you decide to work with an SEO company please choose one carefully. It is an important decision and by choosing the wrong company – it could have significant consequences for your website and business. Use a company that believes in using the rules of the industry and which has a reputation to keep. A good SEO company will use ethical and acceptable SEO techniques, they will work with you and your relationship with them should be on an on-going long-term basis.

Good SEO practice wins every time – forget about the latest and greatest SEO tricks – these do not last and can end up harming your website and business.

Search engines are now fighting back against black hat SEO and their spiders are constantly checking for these practices. So, even if your website gets to the top of the page ranks by using such tricks – you won’t be there for long and the consequences are simply not worth it!. Failure to adhere to ethical optimisation will result in your website being penalised or even worse still – it could be blacklisted from search engine results pages. Just don’t do it – why risk black hat SEO when ethical SEO gives you better and more effective results in the long-term? Learn the art of patience when it comes to SEO!

Ecommerce is having a huge impact on the way we do business – don’t get left behind.

There isn’t much which you can’t buy or sell on-line these days but think carefully about what you would like to sell – is it something you are genuinely interested in? This may sound strange but enthusiasm for your products will help create a website that your potential customers will trust. Have a look at www.16 Plus Rider.co.uk – an eCommerce website designed by Minting Design for our client Wendy. Wendy has such an enthusiasm for riding and her horses – it simply shines through her website – her customers love her because they can relate to her and she to them. Her customers have a good experience when shopping with her and so come back again time after time to shop. So to help you decide what to sell on-line:

you should be genuinely interested in what you sell, if not, it shows.

your goods should be suitable for selling on the internet.

do you have a product that fills a niche in the market place?

specialist, often difficult to find products, can sell very well on-line.

will you get repeat business from your customers?

The great thing about the internet is that small companies can compete with the big boys, however, looking for that niche market with plenty of customers can give you the advantage.

The on-line shopping revolution came about because of the World Wide Web and internet technology and the need for many bricks and mortar retail outlets to reach more customers as high street sales decline.

In today’s modern society what do time-poor people do when they want to shop – they shop on-line! To shop on-line will become as natural for Generation Y as it did for their grandparents to walk and shop at the local corner shop! On-line shopping attracts people of all ages, all walks of life and from world-wide locations. It’s vital, if you live in a rural area without a beauty counter in sight, and are a cosmetic junkie like me!

So if you’ve been thinking of setting up an on-line shop – now’s the time to do it – nearly 33 million consumers made an on-line purchase last year spending £49.8 billion in the UK alone!

Don’t focus on the technology too much (that’s your website designer’s job) as you will never be commercially successful on-line. To be successful in the world of eCommerce – it’s just like any other business – you must have something that your customers want, at a price they can afford and where you can make money!
