MailDefender is a professional email scanning service which is run at server level stopping spam and viruses from reaching your computer or network.

With so many spam emails and viruses arriving at your computer daily, the task of seeing the ‘wood for the trees’ is becoming harder day-by-day. Even if you have one of the many anti-virus products, the chances are that you still have to trawl through the anti-spam folder or are continually adding email addresses to your ‘junk’ list. Most of the widely available anti-virus packages only work on a single method of scanning, MailDefender works by using several layers of scanning using different methods to identify what is spam and what is not. For the more technically minded

So what happens to your emails with MailDefender? The incoming email is first scanned using Cloudmark which analyses the email for suspicious signs that indicate that it may be carrying a virus. When the email has passed this test it is passed to the Sophos anti-virus engine to be analysed for known viruses. Sophos is updated every 5 minutes, and so is kept up-to-date. Having passed Sophos, the email is scanned using the Clam anti-virus engine and then the intY heuristic scanner before even being sent to your computer!

MailDefender does exactly what its name suggests; it defends your computer against unwanted or infected mail, which is the largest source of viruses. You should also keep your computer protected from unknown disks or memory sticks used locally, and not forgetting whatever you may download from the internet.

Minting Design offers the MailDefender service to its hosted customers. As it is a managed service there is a small annual charge in addition to the hosting fee.
